Meet your 2016 Saddle Bronc Riding Champion
You have probably heard the name Thoreson if you pay any attention to rodeo. Why is that you may ask? Well for starters Cole Thoreson is no stranger to the pay window. Cole has also won the year-end Saddle Bronc Riding in the NRA not once but twice, in 2010 & 2012. He was also the reserve champ in 2011. Cole had a great regular season. The Dillon cowboy placed or won 12 rodeos through out the summer. This was good enough to have a $2100 lead over Arlee’s, Charles Lytle. Mathematically did Charles have a chance to take it away from Cole? Yes he did, but it had to play out just right. After the first round was over Cole had strengthened his lead by winning the first round with a 78.5 aboard Jacobs Rodeo’s 686 Hard Ball. Charles was able to get his bronc rode to stay in the average money but was unable to place in the first round, sealing the title for Thoreson. Cole Thoreson is the 2016 NRA Saddle Bronc Riding Champion! Congratulations on your 3rd title Cole!

Meet Your 2016 Champion Bull Rider
If you were at the Saturday night performance of the NRA Finals Rodeo and saw the opening, the guy I’m about to introduce to you was one that comes from a long line of “Cowboys”. Connor Murnion came into the finals in the driver’s seat. He had a great year placing or winning 7 rodeos throughout the regular season. The Jordan, MT cowboy just needed to keep doing what he had been doing all summer to hold off Boulder, MT cowboy Cody Wortman. The first two rounds didn’t go as planned for Murnion. Going into the 3rd and final round he had Wortman hot on his heels for the 2016 NRA Bull Riding title. He had to ride his final bull to make sure Wortman couldn’t sneak up and take it from him. Connor Murnion in fact not only rode his bull, but did it with a score of 80.5, the highest marked bull ride of the entire finals. This young up and coming bull rider is the 2016 Northern Rodeo Association Bull Riding Champion. Congratulations Connor on your 2016 title and very accomplished year.

Meet Your 2016 Team Roping Champions & All Around Champion
If you team rope or follow team roping in anyway you may know the Fuller & Robertson name’s, Kal Fuller & John Robertson to be exact. Coming into the finals Fuller was sitting 7th in the Tie Down roping, 1st in the Team Roping Heading and 1st in the All-Around. Robertson was sitting 4th on the heeling side of the team roping. Fuller started his finals off with a bang placing in both events along with lengthening his lead in the All-Around. This young cowboy from Bozeman has started to make a name for himself. Kal didn’t back down after the first round, he went on to place in both the tie down roping and team roping again in the 2nd round. With this he secured one of his two titles, the 2016 All-Around. Coming into the final night of the team roping Kal along with partner John Robertson, of Polson, wanted to make sure people knew they meant business and won the round with a 4.7, the fastest run of the 2016 NRA Finals. You can say that Fuller and Robertson didn’t hold anything back. This was enough for both Kal and John to win the year end titles in the Team Roping together. Congratulations to Kal Fuller and John Robertson your 2016 NRA Team Roping Champions. Another congratulations goes out to Kal Fuller for being the 2016 All-Around Champion as well. This is the first of many in your future!

Triple Crown winner Shelby Rasmussen
As a contestant going into the 2016 NWRA Finals you want everything to go right. You prepare you and your horse for competition and to win! As a competitor you strive to make sure your mindset is right and you have the right attitude. For Choteau’s own Shelby Rasmussen she did just that. Coming into the finals she was leading not only the Ladies Barrel Racing but also the Women’s All-Around along with sitting 7th in the Ladies Breakaway Roping. She chasing the one and only triple crown win. Thursday night Shelby got the ball rolling with a 3.8 second run in the breakaway roping placing her in the round. She then came back to win the barrel racing with a time of 14.77. Shelby didn’t stop there. She went on to place in the next two rounds and win the average of the breakaway roping. You think that is good? Well not only did she win the Ladies Breakaway average she also went on to win the Ladies Barrel Racing average. As mentioned earlier she was coming into the finals winning the Ladies Barrel Racing, so with placing in two rounds and the average she secured the 2016 Ladies Barrel Racing title. So what did placing in all three rounds and winning the average in the Ladies Breakaway do for her standings? Well it jumped her right to the front! Shelby Rasmussen is not only the 2016 Ladies Barrel Racing Champion but is also the 2016 Ladies Breakaway Champion and the 2016 Women’s All-Around Champion. With a storybook ending she is the only woman in NWRA history to win the Triple Crown! Congratulations Shelby this is only the beginning to a very bright future!
