Triple Crown winner Shelby Rasmussen

As a contestant going into the 2016 NWRA Finals you want everything to go right. You prepare you and your horse for competition and to win! As a competitor you strive to make sure your mindset is right and you have the right attitude. For Choteau’s own Shelby Rasmussen she did just that. Coming into the finals she was leading not only the Ladies Barrel Racing but also the Women’s All-Around along with sitting 7th in the Ladies Breakaway Roping.  She chasing the one and only triple crown win. Thursday night Shelby got the ball rolling with a 3.8 second run in the breakaway roping placing her in the round. She then came back to win the barrel racing with a time of 14.77. Shelby didn’t stop there. She went on to place in the next two rounds and win the average of the breakaway roping. You think that is good? Well not only did she win the Ladies Breakaway average she also went on to win the Ladies Barrel Racing average. As mentioned earlier she was coming into the finals winning the Ladies Barrel Racing, so with placing in two rounds and the average she secured the 2016 Ladies Barrel Racing title. So what did placing in all three rounds and winning the average in the Ladies Breakaway do for her standings? Well it jumped her right to the front! Shelby Rasmussen is not only the 2016 Ladies Barrel Racing Champion but is also the 2016 Ladies Breakaway Champion and the 2016 Women’s All-Around Champion. With a storybook ending she is the only woman in NWRA history to win the Triple Crown! Congratulations Shelby this is only the beginning to a very bright future!
